John Swinney pledges to be 'first minister for everyone'
SNP leader John Swinney has pledged that he will be first minister "for everyone in Scotland'"
After securing the nomination, Mr Swinney said it it was "an extraordinary privilege" and "honour" to accept the office of first minister.
He also paid tribute to his "indefatigable" wife Elizabeth Quigley, who has multiple sclerosis.
Mr Swinney secured the nomination with the backing of 64 MSPs, while the Scottish Green cohort of seven MSPs abstained.
His appointment as first minister will be rubber-stamped by the King before he is officially sworn in at the Court of Session on Wednesday.
