Jim Carswell given Scottish rugby cap 48 years after match

A 76-year-old former rugby union international has finally received his cap for representing Scotland, 48 years after the match he played in.

Jim Carswell lined-up against Japan at Murrayfield in 1976 but never received his cap for the game as, at the time, the match did not carry Test cap status.

After a long-running campaign by his family, it has now been retrospectively presented to him at the care home where he lives in Cheltenham.

Mr Carswell is one of more than 50 Scotland internationals who will receive their caps retrospectively after a decision by Scottish Rugby.
